Project Purge/January Empties

18 Feb

I might have a slight problem. I have a literal crapton of beauty samples. You know, the things you get as a free gift with purchase, the stuff they hand you in stores, or the little soaps and shampoos in your hotel room (which I have an embarrassingly large amount of). I’ve kind of hoarded all of these things for awhile now, saving them for…something. No clue.

So, I’m embarking on a new quest: project purge (aka project get rid of all of this shit you’ve got lying around). Basically, I’ll be working on using up products that I’ve already got, and then I’ll post a picture of everything I’ve used up during the month. There wasn’t any makeup used up this month (boo), but hopefully a couple of things will be in there next time I post my empties. I’m a little late with January, but better late than never, right?

  • John Frieda Frizz Ease Smoothing Creme: I didn’t really like this stuff. It made my hair clump together and get all crunchy. Attractive, right?
  • travel size Gilchrist and Soames body lotion: This is one of those hotel samples that I mentioned before. It actually smelled kinda like rancid, rotting fruit. Yuuuummm.
  • Nail polish remover
  • travel size Caress body wash: Smelled nice. Like candy.
  • Kate Spade Twirl body lotion: I like it, but actually buying it would cost about $40. Noooo thank you.
  • B&BW Paris Amour body lotion: This stuff is awesome.
  • travel size Purity Made Simple: This was the mineral version, and I really like the original better.
  • Clearasil face scrub: I’ve used this stuff for about a decade, but unfortunately I think it may be too rough for my face now. :/
  • travel size Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner
  • travel size Listerine: I used this stuff and I felt like I had just eaten fire. IT BURNED.
  • Suave rosemary mint shampoo and conditioner: I really like this stuff. Know why? Because it’s $2 a bottle, and it smells exactly like the stuff from Aveda. I’ve used the stuff from Aveda, and I’m pretty sure it really isn’t any better.
  • deluxe sample Orofluido hair elixer: I got this in my Birchbox, and I have a love/hate relationship with it. It smells great, but sometimes the scent is overpowering. It really helps de-poof my hair, but I found that if you use too much, your hair ends up looking a bit Snape-ish. Plus, it is a tad bit expensive.
  • travel size St. Ives oatmeal and shea body wash
  • B&BW Paris Amour body wash: Smells awesome.
  • 8 pack of Biore strips
  • sample of Kate Spade Twirl perfume: Smells pretty nice, but nothing can replace Britney Spears’ perfume when it comes to awesomeness.

Well, there you have it! Everything I used up during the month of January. Not too bad, if I say so myself. Hopefully this will offer an explanation to Kit as to why I’ve been keeping empty bottles of stuff around.

(And just so you know, those have all been thrown away. I’m not hoarding the empty bottles.)

A few days ago, one of the cats threw up in the guest room. It happened during the night, and by the time I had discovered it, the stain had already set and the terrible vomity smell lingered in the air. I cleaned things up as best I could, and I even used some of the special carpet stain remover that we have, but even that didn’t work.

But last night, Billy Mays visited me in my dreams and showed me how to get cat barf stains out of carpet. In my dream, I walked into the guest room and Billy was there with some Oxiclean, cleaning up the stains. The room looked exactly the same, and the cat barf stains were in the same spot. He was on his knees scrubbing away at them, and then he held up the container of Oxiclean and pointed to where the stains were. Magic! They were gone.

So, when I went into the guest room today to get something, I saw the stains, remembered my dream, and decided to give it a shot.

And you know what?

It worked.

Even on one stain that had been there for months! Thanks ghost of Billy Mays!

And now, time for a bit of Moggetness.

Haha, I wish I had useful/productive dreams like that. When we were freshman, Rick had a dream about pre-calculus, and when he woke up, he finally understood the material we were learning.

    Also: D’awwwww, Mogget!

it’s the fur cousin!!! SO cute : ) Love you. LOVE that you are using stuff–seriously, that is awesome, I just looked at one of our bathroom cabinets and quickly shut the door because it was scary.

You should join me in this project! I’m also putting myself on a no-buy until further notice as far as beauty products go, so hopefully there will be a lot more space cleared out in the cabinets over the next few months. Love you too! :)

PS: I tried to comment on your blog post with the pics of your cutie pie kiddos, but for some reason it kept telling me that I kept getting the security word wrong (and I KNOW that I didn’t!!), so I gave up after the 2349809th try. So, if a bunch of comments suddenly appear on your blog, that’s why!
