After Kit and I had a brief discussion tonight about all of the expenses coming up for February, it became pretty clear that between paying for rent, utilities, car insurance, and taking Mogget to the vet, next month was going to be a little tight financially. And by a little tight, I mean really tight.
As a result of this oncoming, even-more-broke-than-usualness, we’ve decided to put a ban on dining out for the month of February. This means no fast food, no restaurants, and no buying snacks from that damnedly convenient store right next to the Starbucks in the library. We eat out way, way too much, and not only is this totally bad for our inside bits, it’s also pretty bad for those things called wallets. So, tomorrow and Tuesday are our last opportunities to enjoy the luxury of dining out, and then the ban goes in full-force February 1st.
Luckily, even easy peasy things like frozen pizza count in this challenge. Thank goodness for that, since that’ll probably be what saves us when we nap too long and don’t feel like cooking anything difficult.
Alright. Let’s do this thing.
UPDATE: After some more discussion about this, we decided that dining out was acceptable under certain circumstances: maybe on one or two date nights throughout the month, by using gift cards (since we wouldn’t actually be paying for it then), and the weekend of the 25th (since Kit is getting together with old pals to have fun times and merriment).

In other news…here is something adorable to help start the week off right.

We can do it. For we are awesome.
1) What a great idea! We need to eat out less, as well. Specifically, I need to ban myself from entering Starbucks. There’s a Starbucks on the first floor of my building at work, and it’s so hard to resist.
2) That is BEYOND adorable!
Gahhh, Starbucks…the Starbucks I mentioned in the post is a constant source of temptation. I don’t really use my study carrell in the library much, but the sociology department is right next to the library, so I’m always tempted to pop over before class and pick up some overpriced coffee!
I think we might jump on the bandwagon.
Wait…does getting starbucks coffee and sonic dr. pepper count? in that case….
My downfalls are McDonald’s sweet tea and these cupcakes from a shop about 20 minutes from our house. I’m not cutting them out completely, but I have decided that those are things that are going to happen every other week or something, a much, much less frequent treat.
I don’t think an occasional Starbucks coffee or Sonic drink is bad, but if they’re frequent things they add up! (something I’ve learned from experience)
Good luck to everyone doing this!
